This poem is inspired by the vision that John the Beloved sees of Christ in Revelation 1, specifically in verses 12-16. It is written in a strict chiastic form called a Sal, which I developed during the process of writing. The poem itself (and the form) took around a year to fully develop, much of this time taken in squeezing in as much Biblical imagery as the space allowed (without feeling overly cramped) and to satisfy the rhyming requirements. I am confident that there is not a single word in this poem that was not agonized over. This does not mean that the poem is perfect, but I believe it means the poem can now stand on its own as a work that is complete.
